Intermediate Blacksmithing Class

Students will spend all day at the forge working on a project to take home. Project may include leaf work, fullering, horseshoes, fire poker or rake, paper towel or bathroom tissue holder. Class is from 8am to 5pm. Cost is $125/participant (or $112.50/participant for ZCA members) and includes all instruction, materials, and lunch. FREE Speaker Series

Join Sara Showman (from the South) and Mark Dawidziak (from the North) for a presentation entitled “Ghosts of the Civil War: Shades of Blue and Gray.” This one-hour presentation will include ghost stories from South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Ohio and literary selections by Walt Whitman, Ambrose Bierce, and Emily Dickinson. Meet in the historic Zoar Schoolhouse (located at 221 East 4th Street, Zoar, Ohio 44697) from 1pm-2pm.

Beginning Blacksmithing Class

Learn the basics of blacksmithing as you forge a hook and a nail. This class features plenty of time at the anvil while you discover the history of smithing. Class is from 8am to 5pm. Cost is $100/participant (or $90/participant for ZCA members) and includes all instruction, materials, and lunch. Reservations are required, so call 330-874-3011 to save your spot! Limited to four apprentices.

Fall Watercolor Class

Instructor Jack Fetzer from North Canton, Ohio has been painting watercolor landscapes for 35 years. He has traveled the country, but he prefers to paint the Ohio scenes he knows best. This 6 week class will meet every Thursday from 3pm-5pm in the Zoar Schoolhouse (located at 221 East 4th Street, Zoar, Ohio 44697) beginning September 17  and ending October 22. Fee for all 6 classes is $60, or $54 for ZCA members. Register by filling out the Fall Watercolor Class Registration Form or call 330-874-3011.

Civil War School Day

The Civil War comes to Zoar! Visit over 20 stations about Civil War life, meet historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, and take part in a number of historic demonstrations on this day of Civil War fun! Cost is $4/student and teachers are FREE — $6/person for additional adults. Event is open to all public, private, and home schools! Reservations are required by 5pm on Tuesday, September 15. Hours of the event are 9am-3pm.

Battle of Sailor’s Creek Civil War Reenactment

Join the ranks with over 1,500 Civil War soldiers and civilians for a weekend, and experience life in the 1860s at Ohio’s largest and greatest Civil War event! Walk through historic Union and Confederate camps, witness cavalry and artillery demonstrations, enjoy the Saturday Civil War Ball, tour all 10 of Zoar’s historic buildings, and much more! This event is only every other year, so don’t miss your chance to take part in this weekend filled with fun! Admission is $10/person and children 12 and under are FREE, and your ticket is good for the whole weekend! Hours are Saturday, September 19 9am-9pm and Sunday, September 20 9am-5pm.
