Volunteers are the heart of our village – without them, we would not be able to share our history and traditions with thousands of visitors each year.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Form (Zoar Village & Fort Laurens)

Intern at historic zoar village

Historic Zoar Village and the Fort Laurens Museum now offer an internship program. This program can be personalized to fit the various needs of the student. Internships are available at the following levels: junior or senior in high school, vocational school, or homeschool, or undergraduate or graduate student in university or college. Students can obtain college credits through supervisor and professor approval. Standard internships will be ten weeks in length with an average of 8 hours per week. The duration and hours per day can be tailored to the intern’s needs. All completed internships will result in a letter of recommendation for the student.

Please email a cover letter that includes current academic level, a writing sample, a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor, and, if interested in receiving academic credit, the requirements or guidelines of the program to [email protected].

  • Marketing: social media, partnership development, general advertising outreach, graphic design: flyer and ad development, press releases and website content development
  • Collections: care and management, cataloging
  • Archives: cataloging, scanning and metadata, library organization
  • Education: school group program development to fit curriculum standards, lesson planning, school outreach
  • Program & Event Management: program development, event management, volunteer coordination
  • Museum Studies: daily operations, interpretation, adult outreach and program development, school outreach and program development 
  • Art: gallery interpretation, adult outreach and program development, school outreach and program development

Historic Zoar Village and the Fort Laurens Museum will offer internships in the listed categories. If you are interested in another project or if you wish to submit a proposal for a personalized internship, please send proposals to [email protected].

Duties for each internship will vary. Interns may choose to work in more than one subcategory or blend categories and subcategories with supervisor approval to fit their career goals.
