#21 House - 1820’s

The earliest portion of the house was a log cabin, with a large addition built later. John Breymaier, head tanner, lived here.

The Tannery was a large building across the street from #21 House. The vats to tan the hides in were square holes dug in the ground and evidently were waterproof. They used tan bark and water. When the bark had done its work, they dried it and the bark was then used on sidewalks and garden walks in place of ashes.

#21 House is currently a private residence.
