Bauer Haus #18

Virtual Tour > Bauer Haus

The Bauer Haus is located on the north side of Third Street.

This is the largest and oldest frame house in Zoar. It is a large building, sixty feet long by thirty-five feet wide, two and one-half stories high. The Bauer Haus (farmer’s house) was originally a storehouse at the furnace between Bolivar and Zoar. In 1857 this storehouse was no longer in use, so it was torn down and moved to Zoar.

During apple butter making season, neighbors and all of the young people would gather at the Bauer Haus to help with the “snitzling.” The Bauer Haus is a private residence.
