Cider House #19

Virtual Tour > Cider House

The Cider House is located on the southwest corner of Foltz and Third Streets.

It is also known as the Simon Beuter home. This house contains one of the large arched cellars which are numerous in old Zoar homes. The Beuter cellar is extremely large and runs the entire length of the house. Here the winter supply of cider was stored for the town in rows of hogsheads, each about one hundred gallons in capacity. Zoar exported cider to Cleveland and other cities and it is this industry for which Zoar became known as the “village in an apple orchard.” The Cider House is now a private residence.
