The Bakery - 1845

Virtual Tour > The Bakery

The Bakery is located on the northwest corner of Main and Fourth Streets.

Of all industries in Zoar, the Bakery commanded the most attention from young and old alike. The first duty of the children and young people after school was to go to the bakery to get the bread for their families, and also to distribute it in the village.

In the years 1880 to 1882, the need arose for a second, but somewhat smaller, oven due to the many extra workers building the railroad. It was built off the annex connecting the main house and the flour house. Constructed of Zoar handmade brick, the heating area was at the side of the oven door.

The Ohio History Connection restored the Bakery and it is operated as both a museum and a retail store. The Bakery features delicious breads, pastries, and other baked goods. Hours June-September are Friday & Saturday 11a-4p and Sunday 12p-4p.
